Ice Age Mammoth Ivory Jewellery

Caroline carves Jewellery and objects in Ice Age Mammoth Ivory

This prehistoric material is unearthed during the brief Arctic summers in Canada, Alaska and Siberia. the buried remains of wooly mammoth and mastodon (extinct 10,000 years ago) have provided artisans with beautifully coloured ivories for centuries, while posing no threat to living species.

Although the deposits of such ivories are large, the percentage of precious material is quite small, making it a rare and valuable gem.
